In 2020, the PERFORM Artistic Foundation together with the Mazovian Institute of Culture launched the original project of the Central Dance Stage in Warsaw. The project focused on the cyclical presentation of dance phenomena and activities that are not or rarely shown in Warsaw.
The project was created on the basis of a multi-annual and environmental project operating in 2016-2019 in Warsaw – the Dance Art Center. After professional evaluation and analysis of the materials collected by, among others, the research collective, we drew conclusions for further development and filling the gap on the Warsaw dance market through proposals of such departments as:

The Central Dance Stage in Warsaw, just like in 2020, will be divided into four program sections, which will oscillate around the following thematic issues: isolation, migration, resistance movement, online life, ecology, utopias / dystopias.
I DEPARTMENT – DANCE CINEMA
The script for each of the 5 film evenings includes a curatorial film program (approx. 60-90 minutes), which will be complemented by lectures and interviews with invited filmmakers and / or experts. Individual film programs will focus on the following issues:
February 11-14 Vol. 1 – Online Dance Cinema vol. 1 | Isolation | Central Dance Stage 2021
February 18-21 Vol. 2 – Online Dance Cinema vol. 2 | Connection | Central Dance Stage 2021
March 25-28 Vol. 3 – Online Dance Cinema vol. 3 | Back to nature | Central Dance Stage 2021
Vol.4 – resistance movement
Vol.5 – Utopias / dystopias
The entire dance cinema program will be made online and will be free of charge for viewers.
In total, we will see over 30 dance films from around the world.
SECTION II – CST SCENE
In the second installment of the CST, during the Dance Stage meetings, we will have the opportunity to see etudes and performances created by dance, performance and related arts artists.
The space will be open to young people, groups, artistic collectives associating adepts as well as professional artists and dancers. We will make it possible to present your own works with a focus on artistic and educational performances for a wider audience.
We will meet during 4 artistic evenings on the stage of the Mazowiecki Institute of Culture. The selection of solo, duo and group dancers will take place through curatorial invitations and through open call selection.
SECTION III – SPATIAL INTERVENTIONS
During the 2nd edition of CST, we will meet three times in public spaces – to explore the potential of working in the unique scenery of the city of Warsaw. Using improvisational and choreographic tools, as well as movement and dance, we will change the perspective, seek inspiration in the surroundings and awaken the creativity of both creators and viewers. A group of dancers and artists will create 3 performative shows that will take place in 3 different locations in Warsaw. The leading themes of the creative research will be transformation, nature and attention, time and relationships.
SECTION IV – DANCE CRITICS
It will be closely related to the philosophical and educational discourse on dance. This program section will directly relate to the activities taking place under the CST (regular CST SCENE presentations, DANCE CINEMA and SITE-SPECIFIC INTERVENTIONS). Dance criticism is one of the necessary elements stimulating the development of the audience. One of the functions of critics is to mediate two-way communication between artists and viewers. Reliable, professional dance criticism serves both the artists and the audience, who acquire knowledge about dance and reception skills to a large extent by reading reviews and reports supporting understanding and perception of dance. Thematic discussions about the problems and topics discussed in dance performances, as well as the artists’ statements about their work methodology, inspirations and choreographic concepts are other elements of the dance criticism at CST 2nd edition.
Block I – 4 expert interviews
II Block – 4 podcasts with choreographers invited to site-specific activities and dancers
Block III – 12 reviews from each CST event and one summarizing the entire project.
